Lambeth’s cool for now!

So says Wiki re how the Jack-o’-lantern gets its name. Seems it’s redolent of some mysterious illuminations that have been spied on an atmospheric Oct 31st on occasion. Good also to hear that, along with pumpkins, turnips (turnips!) may also be crafted so as to form that wilfully glinting smirk we love to play with!

Along with luminaries Kenneth Tharp, Linda Gibbs, Lizie Saunderson, Betsy Gregory, Anne Donnely, Geraldine Morris, Christopher Bannerman and Namron, Morley College ballet teacher Brian Betscher is appearing in a work developed by Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fargion together with the group.

The dancers will present the piece at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre as part of the Elixir Festival September  12-13th

Love at the Southbank

August 1, 2014

Ah, shucks – dancing again – this time with the lovely and skilful Emma as apart of Souhtbank’s Festival of Love. We’ve a duet by the very talented Thomas Michael Voss to render at the Royal Festival Hall (3pm).

This weekend the particular brand of love featured is Pragma – love which endures (I can relate to that)!

The elegant main space at London’s Conway Hall echoes with memories of the original Ballet Russes, the lost romance of Alain Fournier’s Le Grandes Meaulnes and the melancholic circus of Federico Fellini.

Curated by Luke Dixon and Jane Turner this Parade will be a glorious unfolding display by experienced, individualistic artists, their essential best, flashes of ingenuity and a multiplicity of theatrical forms intertwine in Conway’s atmospheric theatre that is emblazoned with the banner

‘to thine own self be true….’
Turner & Dixon bring together 25 years of artistic collaborations and mix with the vibrancy of fresh young talent.

Morley College Acting students will be appearing as part of the line-up!

‘During the workshop, you as painters, drawers and dancers will investigate in creating a performance based on methods of interactions. You will be guided through improvisations aiming to enable all artists to be integrated within performance in whatever the medium in which you are working. The labs involve physical warm up, creative tasks, improvisation and discussion. The outcome will be a performance event’ (Schmidt-Andreasen).

Tim at Reunion 13

In education – a month of driving for change and sustained endeavour: strength in existing provision and new work – got to have both. Lots of allies to help with this – all in it together really.

In creative output – a month of thinking to make: a dance theatre act with words, songs and contemporary dance movement (Graham midriff, Cunningham shoulders, Astaire feet, Kelly legs, Hayworth spirit, Oida presence, Jackson immediacy…).

As for the one – a month of coming to terms…and dreaming, always dreaming!

Lucy Beech and Edward Thomasson present their new film-work Left Behind Together at the OUTPOST Art Gallery in Norwich from November 2nd – 21st.

It was a pleasure to have been involved!

What is Live Art?

October 30, 2013

Dance artist Carolyn Roy and I are holding two free practical sessions at Morley College on November 5th and 19th (7.30 – 9.30pm). We’ll consider the questions – what is Live Art? And – what is Live Art at Morley College?

Both sessions will work as ends in themselves – as much as it might be possible to view practical question-asking sessions as ends anyway – but they’ll also serve as tasters for the 12-week course What is Live Art? Creativity course that starts at Morley College is January.

Participants starting in January will have the opportunity to work towards making their own performance exhibition for showing in summer 2014.

Anyway, do come to the free sessions in November!
