Mintfest 2011

September 6, 2011

Tess Hill’s team of very talented actor/performers delivered some very fine reproaches, jokes, promises of redemption and other assorted silliness during their strolling show this weekend. The Temperance Society’s pitch, one that warns of the dangers of excess – of any sort – and pleasure in particular, tickled the fancy of many a festival reveller in Kendal. The five players, dressed in elegant Victorian garb, dispensed a witty and tightly choreographed rallying cry, juxtaposed with rueful asides about the dangers of drink and not being properly attired (in bonnets and floor-length skirts). It was a real pleasure to follow this delightfully dotty marching band of evangelists around the backstreets and pubs as they sought out sin wherever it lurked.
